Hello there! My name is Melissa and I am a graphic designer; typography and photographic manipulation are my thing. I have been working in some creative capacity for nearly 23 years and am super passionate about both art and design: where we’ve been, where we are, and where we are going. I am a creative, daydreamer, thinker, designer, and artist. I dig InDesign, the Avenir type family, Swiss Style design, and negative space.
As long as I can remember I have been the artist in the family; creativity has just always been my strong suit. In adulthood I knew that I wanted to pursue art in some capacity but could never quite comprehend the practical opportunities available out there. I spent my entire twenties working in a professional photography lab. What started out initially as a data entry clerk position soon turned into a photographic editor position when a supervisor noticed my aptitude for distinguishing color casts in our printed work. Eight years later I was the sole editor in the lab, responsible for managing color on all printed work among various other duties including the design of new photographic products, templates, and advertising materials. Feeling limited in my design skills and technical knowledge and eager to learn more, I decided to pursue a BFA- concentrating on graphic design- at Wayne State University.
Today I am confident graphic design is what I was meant for; I just absolutely couldn’t imagine life without it.
When I’m not designing, creating, or reading about design and creative things you can find me spending time with my husband and son, cuddling with my pets, cooking or baking, binging Stranger Things and SpongeBob Squarepants, building Legos, playing board games, crafting, working on puzzles, or listening to some oldies.
